Weald of Kent Grammar School

Weald of Kent Grammar School is a selective grammar school with campuses in Tonbridge and Sevenoaks. The school provides education for girls from Year 7 to Year 11, with a co-educational Sixth Form based at the Tonbridge Campus. Around 1,900 students are on roll across the two campuses.

The school is an academy and its admissions are coordinated through Kent County Council. From 1 November 2026, Weald of Kent Grammar School will join The Girls’ Learning Trust, subject to completion of the necessary legal, governance and operational processes.

Inspection at a glance

At its most recent Ofsted inspection, carried out on 1 and 2 October 2024, Weald of Kent Grammar School was judged to be Good in all five areas reported by Ofsted: Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management, and Sixth Form. Ofsted no longer awards an overall effectiveness grade to state-funded schools following inspections carried out from September 2024.

Getting a place at Weald of Kent Grammar School

Weald of Kent Grammar School is selective. For Year 7 entry, girls can demonstrate grammar school suitability through either the Kent Test or the school's own Weald Grammar Assessment. These are equal and alternative routes, and neither assessment has priority over the other.

For September 2027 entry, parents could register for the Weald Grammar Assessment directly with the school between 1 June and 10 July 2026. The assessment consists of English and Mathematics papers based on the Key Stage 2 curriculum up to the end of Year 5.

Whether a girl qualifies through the Kent Test or the Weald Grammar Assessment, parents must still name Weald of Kent Grammar School on their Local Authority Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF). Passing either assessment does not itself constitute an application for a school place.

Where the school is oversubscribed, its published admissions criteria are used to allocate places. Parents should always check the school's current admissions policy and timetable, as arrangements and dates may change.

Sixth Form

Weald of Kent's Sixth Form is co-educational and is based at the Tonbridge Campus. It offers a range of A Level subjects and welcomes applications from both current Weald students and external applicants, subject to the published Sixth Form admissions requirements.
