About Medway Music Rooms

Medway Music Rooms is a purpose-built teaching studio with six soundproofed rooms and a small recital space. Around 30 tutors teach here across the week.

Lessons are available from age five, with no requirement to sit graded exams unless a child wants to. About half of pupils work towards ABRSM or Trinity grades and half simply play for enjoyment.

Two youth ensembles rehearse on Saturday mornings and perform publicly twice a year, which is included in lesson fees rather than charged separately.

Questions parents ask

Do we need to buy an instrument first?

No. We keep loan instruments for most of what we teach, so families can try a term before spending anything significant.

Does my child have to take exams?

Not at all. Roughly half our pupils never sit a grade and simply learn to play the music they enjoy.

How much practice is expected?

For a beginner, ten to fifteen minutes most days achieves far more than an hour once a week. We set realistic weekly targets rather than open-ended homework.
