About Steady Steps SEND Support
Steady Steps was founded by a former SENCO who spent fifteen years in Kent schools and now works independently with families. The service covers two things that usually sit apart: specialist teaching, and help navigating the system around it.
On the teaching side, sessions are one-to-one and built around each child's profile, whether that is dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism or an unidentified difficulty that school has not yet got to the bottom of.
On the advocacy side, the team helps families prepare for EHCP needs assessment requests, annual reviews and mediation, including attending meetings alongside parents.

Can you help us request an EHC needs assessment?
Yes. We help families gather and present evidence, and explain what the local authority is required to consider. We cannot influence the decision itself, but a well-evidenced request is treated very differently from a thin one.
Do we need a diagnosis first?
No. Support in school is meant to be based on need rather than diagnosis, and a great deal can be done while any assessment is still pending.
Will you attend meetings with school?
Yes, in person or online. Many families find that having someone who knows the language and the process in the room changes the tone of the conversation entirely.
